MANNINGTREE a traditional MARKET TOWN
The attractive market town of Manningtree is located at the head of the Stour, a prosperous centre of the cloth trade in Tudor times and later a flourishing port for barges. Today it retains much of the character and architecture of these times including a number of impressive Georgian buildings.
Today this characterful little town hosts a popular Saturday market, and is also home to a number of exceptional restaurants. As you leave the High Street and head out on to the riverside you can stop and take in the magnificent views across the Stour.
It's evident today that the area has retained a real sense of character and charm, a thriving community that still features a butchers shop, post office, a local cake shop and attractive delicatessens and cafes maintaining the traditions of a true market town.
Enjoy Life on the Coast
Part of Manningtree's charm is its location set against the rugged beauty of the Stour river. Even today you can watch the local fishermen land their catch right before your very eyes. Even more surprising is that Manningtree has it's own beach featuring rich golden sand, a popular area for the locals during summer.
The river front at Manningtree leading to the historic Mistley Towers is an attractive destination for visitors, a place where you can enjoy the fresh coastal breeze and take in the ever changing panoramic views across the Stour and beyond. A great place to enjoy the calming nature of the water and lose yourself for a few minutes away from the madding crowd.
